Travis James Humphrey: Listen
Back End of the Rainbow
Somewhere over the rainbow, there’s supposed to be a pot of gold,
with magical leprechauns and prancing unicorns, and where nobody ever grows old.
All the people are nice, and the only time you see ice is floating in your mojito;
somewhere, somewhere over the rainbow.
Well …
At the back end of the rainbow, there’s pot, but there ain’t much gold,
and the only prancing, magical creatures you’ll find, where fine silk-screening is sold.
Coffee brandy sells exceptionally well; throw in some milk and ice and shake it cold;
and there’s your mojito at the back end of the rainbow.
At the back end of the rainbow, every bumper’s got a sticker to read;
like “Proud Parent of a …” what-the-hell-ever or “Love Your Mother; Hug a Tree”.
You can usually find a “Get Right or Get Left” or “Keep On Honking While I Reload”;
cuz, it takes all kinds at the back end of the rainbow.
SOLO
At the back end of the rainbow, Mother Nature doesn’t always play nice;
she likes to show just how much she cares, by bestowing gifts of snow and ice.
Yeah, winter brings blizzards, but spring means floods, and now summer’s got tornadoes,
blowing straight up the back end of the rainbow;
It’s always one thing or another at the back end of the rainbow.
And I’m right at home at the back end of the rainbow.
